California has been on the forefront of the battle against cash bail. Many of the political leaders believe it is unfair to the poor to hold someone that can not afford to pay the bond fees. The question that rises is, if they are so concerned about equality then how is it that people are not treated equally in jail? If you have money you are able to make your living conditions better than the other inmates that do not have as much.

In a report in the Los Angeles Times written by Alysia Santo, Victoria Kim and Anna Flagg, they outline how it is possible to pay for better living accommodations while incarcerated.
