In February of 2016 Representative Ted Lieu (D-California) introduced a bill titled “No Money Bail Act” into congress. This dangerous piece of legislation is still pending as it is being reviewed by the House Judiciary.
The first line of H.R. 4611 states “To discourage the use of payment of money as a condition of pretrial release in criminal cases, and for other purposes”. In other words, it is a bill to remove professional and surety bail bonds to enable people to commit crimes and simply walk out of jail with no incentive to go to court.
